Does climate impact vary across time horizons? A time–frequency analysis of climate-crop yields in India

چکیده

Climate change is a major concern the world over more so for predominantly agrarian country like India. In this paper we analyze time horizon dynamics of crop and climate variables at regional level in We also co-movements yields with temperature rainfall to observe coherence across heterogenous horizons. employ Bai-Perron structural break Continuous wavelet transform methods on yearly data seven variables. Observed are analyzed from 1956 2010 un-divided state Andhra Pradesh, Breakpoint analysis shows an increase around 1.0° two observed points. Rainfall depicts no systematic fluctuations being largely random. The framework wavelets-based time–frequency employed study captures heterogeneous horizons, allowing one impact both short longer time-horizons. Wavelet based exhibited significant co-movement between climatic Given shifts patterns subsequent horizons level, policy makers scientists should design specific locally viable adaption mitigation policies tackle crops livelihoods.

The Impact of Climate Change on Crop Yields in India

The study of climate change impacts on Indian agriculture has gained recent attention, due to the size of India’s agricultural sector, and reports suggesting that developing countries are more vulnerable to negative climate change effects. Studies in India have focused on predicting future trends using standard climate change scenarios from externally developed models. However, these studies ar...

Climate Change and Crop Yields in Iran and Other OIC Countries

Climate change is the main phenomenon that directly affects the world environment, and changes in the environment affect economic sectors differently. The most important impacts of climate change would be on enhancing the average global temperature and the decrease in precipitation. The agricultural sector is the first and most affected sector in the climate change. We examined the impact of te...

Climate Change, Crop Yields, and Undernutrition: Development of a Model to Quantify the Impact of Climate Scenarios on Child Undernutrition

BACKGROUND Global climate change is anticipated to reduce future cereal yields and threaten food security, thus potentially increasing the risk of undernutrition. The causation of undernutrition is complex, and there is a need to develop models that better quantify the potential impacts of climate change on population health. OBJECTIVES We developed a model for estimating future undernutritio...

The fingerprint of climate trends on European crop yields.

Europe has experienced a stagnation of some crop yields since the early 1990s as well as statistically significant warming during the growing season. Although it has been argued that these two are causally connected, no previous studies have formally attributed long-term yield trends to a changing climate. Here, we present two statistical tests based on the distinctive spatial pattern of climat...

The Impact of Climate Change on Crop Yields in Sub-Saharan Africa

This study estimates of the impact of climate change on yields for the four most commonly grown crops (millet, maize, sorghum and cassava) in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). A panel data approach is used to relate yields to standard weather variables, such as temperature and precipitation, and sophisticated weather measures, such as evapotranspiration and the standardized precipitation index (SPI). T...
